Education and Professional Activities
Terry Garrett graduated from Cornell University with honors. She was on the Dean’s List at Wharton Business School. She earned her J.D. at Columbia Law School, receiving the Parker Award and a Mellon Fellowship. She did post-graduate work at Harvard Law School and the New York Institute of Finance.
A Certified Elder Law Attorney, Terry Garrett serves on the federal advocacy committee of the National Academy of Elder and Special Needs Law Attorneys (“NAELA”) and the board of the Texas chapter. NAELA attorneys envision a day when all older adults, people with disabilities, and their families have the legal, health, social and financial care they need to live their best lives.
She is an Approved Guardianship Attorney and is appointed by Central Texas courts in heirship and guardianship proceedings. She is a member of the Estate Planning Council of Central Texas.
She handles pro bono cases for Volunteer Legal Services, the Austin Bar Association’s Cancer Clinic, Veterans’ Clinics and the Women’s Resource Fair. She also participates in UT Law School clinics and speaks on legal and financial planning for the Alzheimer’s Association.
Mother of a child with special needs, over the years she has taught for the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill and volunteered for the Council on Adoptable Children, the AFS foreign exchange student program, Cornell Cares, Hands on Housing and as an officer of the Harmony PTO.
In her free time, she enjoys studying dance and taking long walks in beautiful Central Texas.
